User-facing updates — no downloads, no installs

  1. A cleaner, more polished Sharry

    Sharry 2.0 brings a visual refresh across the whole app — clearer typography, smoother motion, and a lighter navigation bar.

    • Refined typography and spacing on every page, including the host and join screens.
    • Subtle spring animations replace instant pop-ins, with hover and press feedback on cards and buttons.
    • A translucent, sticky navigation bar that stays out of your way while you scroll.
    • New guides for presentations, pair programming, and teaching, alongside the existing TV casting, remote support, and Discord alternative pages.

  2. Native fullscreen and playback controls when joining

    Viewers now get the browser's built-in video controls, including fullscreen, on every device.

    • Fullscreen now works the same way on desktop and mobile.
    • Standard playback controls appear directly on the shared screen.

  3. Recording now requires a free sign-in

    Starting a local recording of your shared screen now needs a Google or Apple sign-in.

    • Anonymous hosts can still share their screen — recording just needs an account.
    • Signing in takes a few seconds and stays free.

  4. Record while you share

    Hosts can record the live screen during a session and download each take locally.

    • Start and stop recording independently of the live share — viewers keep watching.
    • Multiple takes per session, each with a start time and its own download.
    • Files stay on your device as WebM. Sharry never uploads them.

  5. Invite links

    Viewers can join from a link — no session ID or password to type.

    • Copy an invite link from the host dashboard.
    • The link expires after one hour and never puts the password in the URL.
    • Session ID and password still work if you prefer to share them out loud.

  6. Viewer names

    Signed-in viewers show their name instead of a random ID.

    • When a viewer signs in, the host dashboard shows their name.
    • Anonymous viewers still appear with a generated id.

  7. Share time only counts while you share

    The free 5-minute budget now runs only during an active screen share, with a live countdown.

    • Creating a session no longer starts the clock by itself.
    • A live countdown shows remaining share time on the host dashboard.
